Kern River Estate
Located off Alfred Harrell Highway on five acres near the Kern River, this outdoor living project was designed to honor both land and lifestyle. Framed by a private pond, barn, horse corrals, and a grove of fruit trees, the space reflects a thoughtful balance of rustic character and old-world Spanish influence, tailored for horse-loving clients who value gathering, family time, and easy outdoor entertaining.
Natural limestone pavers ground the design and set a timeless foundation, while custom furnishings and intentional planning define distinct zones for dining, lounging, and hosting. At the center, an 11-foot custom dining table was built to fit the space like a glove. The table's thick top and substantial legs celebrate the beauty of the wood itself, highlighting natural knots, grain variation, and that collected farmhouse warmth. A favorite detail, the hand-forged iron plates at each leg, became a design cue repeated throughout the seating mix, tying the table to the surrounding pieces with a quiet sense of continuity.
The bar area serves as a second focal point, constructed from reclaimed corrugated metal and Siberian barn wood to bring in texture, history, and a sense of permanence. The result is an outdoor environment that feels relaxed yet considered, rooted in its setting and designed for everyday use.
